Comparative and Functional genomics of invertebrate genomes

Functional genomics also provides us the opportunity to study organisms that are less popular than the few model organisms that dominated genetics and molecular biology. The lab is interested in organisms with unusual properties that can be studied using transcriptome timecourses in collaboration with other groups at UCI and elsewhere. Current projects in the lab include (a) a time course of Hydra head regeneration and (b) the sequencing and annotation of the several nematode genomes such as Panagrellus redivivus and several entemopathogenic Steinernema worms. We are particularly interested in the evolution of non-coding regulatory elements in the entire nematode phylum.
